Exploring Vocation: First meeting with the DDO team member

Shortly after my meeting with the DDO I received an email from his team member arranging to meet with me in 2 weeks time. It would just be an informal chat so I didn't need to prepare anything in advance.
2 weeks passed by and I managed to get to the meeting after copious twists and turns to get to the rural parish she is based at, only getting lost once!
The conversation was indeed an informal one, more to get to know one another than delve into my vocation at this point.   Initially she was concerned that I had only recently started attending church regularly again after quite a long hiatus but as the conversation developed and I explained more about myself she became more confident in me being able to go forward for selection next year, provided I had the drive to do so.
Obviously the speed of selection shall all depend upon how our meetings go.   If all goes well I shall have my meetings with her till Christmas then move to meeting Bishop Phillip after that.
We also found that we had a mutual love of all things geeky, and my level of nerdiness did seem to impress her!
For our next meeting she wants me to have another look at my time line I created before and see if I can expand on it spiritually some more.  She also wants me to look at the vocations criteria and start gathering an evidence portfolio for each of the points it makes. Finally she wants me to experience a different type of churchmanship than the high church I am used to so I am to find a local 'low church' to attend mass at in a semi regular basis so I can see what all aspects of the Church of England encompasses. She said it needn't be Sunday mass as she is aware I am a key member of my own parish but to definitely find some weekday masses to attend.
Our next meeting isn't until September. As a fellow ex-teacher her summer holiday period is sacrosanct.
So with this in mind my next Delving into Discernment post won't be for a couple of months. But this is the nature of vocation. It is a slow process to ensure it definitely is the right thing!

Board gaming ministry

What is one thing families across the country do on wet and miserable days whilst on holiday?  They break out board games… Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble….yawn…more like bored games!  The world of board gaming is going through something of a golden age at the moment.  There are hundreds of thousands of new, more exciting games out there with a wide variety of mechanics – from fun party games that can be played in 15 minutes, to epic legacy games which can provide hundreds of hours of entertainment to a group of friends.  It’s so popular that there are multiple websites and YouTube channels that are dedicated to them (check out Wil Wheaton's Tabletop , a YouTube series which has celebrities playing board games with Wil Wheaton from Star Trek that in 2014 broke records by crowdfunding $1,414,159 to continue making episodes!)  There are also board game cafes opening up around the country, where you pay for a table for 30 mins, an hour or 2 hours and they p...

First full service

Outside view of Christ Church  Today I led my first service in its entirety. Last week Rev. Cindy kindly let me lead the family service from the order of service whilst she took control of the intercessions and the address.  Over the Christmas period I also had a chance at doing prayers of intercession as well as addresses.   This week I combined all of them and led the service from start to finish minus the reading and notices. The former as usually you do get someone else to read to break the monotony of your voice for the congregation and the latter as I didn't have a list of them.  I feel like it went really well! I didn't trip over anything and everyone there said I did a great job. I was nervous but it felt like God was present and was helping me maintain my composure and keep on top of things. I'm suffering from a chesty cough at the moment yet throughout the service I didn't need to stop to cough even once! I'm not sure if anyone would be inte...

Saturday Sonnets: God's Timing by M.S.Lowndes

God's Timing The vision that God has given And the things that He has planned, May not happen right away Or in ways that we understand For often God's preparing us For when that day arrives When we will see the outworking Of God's vision in our lives Though it tarries, wait for it, For it will surely come God's timing never comes too late, He'll accomplish what He's begun God is never slow to act; He will surely bring it to pass We need not be anxious and despair, But have peace within our hearts For when it comes, we'll be released Into what the Lord's prepared, So we will fulfil all that He's planned As we are being gently led. © By M.S.Lowndes
